About Grady Box

straighton_bracket_leftGrady Box, with its unusually large capacity, brings new solutions to old problems. For example, Grady Box does not need a plaster ring for the most common office applications. Since there are no projecting tabs, a drywall specialist can run a router around the outside edges of the box, so internal wires are safe from harm.

When wire nuts or push-wire connectors are used as recommended in each looped box, all connections can be made while the walls are open. As a result, cables can be energized before the walls are finished. This process, which eliminates faults caused by loose series feed screws on outlets, is required for multi-wire feeder circuits, and it is also good practice for all looped receptacles. You can set up temporary lighting with actual wiring and perform circuit tests while the walls are still open. There is never a problem figuring “what goes where” after the drywall is done. Since all wiring is made up at rough-in, finish work becomes easier—ideal for an apprentice. This saves significant time and money, and it improves job-site safety!

2-Gang Grady Box has the capacity to allow all of the needed connections for fourteen (14) #12 wires and it still has more than enough room for two 3-way or 4-way switches, or two duplex receptacles, which is commonly needed in the office environment. It is also ideal for other labor saving devices like Pass & Seymour’s PlugTail™ receptacles, with their connector and pre-stripped leads. You need the greater depth of Grady Box to take full advantage of this new system.

With Grady Box, you can bring in 8 or 10 loose leads from the ceiling with ½" or ¾" conduit, and still have enough room for up to 4 MC MCI-A cables. Using the “tap” system in this way saves a tremendous amount of cable by reducing home runs by as much as two-thirds in a typical office. This clearly reduces cable costs, but it also significantly decreases cable installation labor, and termination time at the panel. It reduces the number of cables at the panel too by 60%, providing a neater, cleaner installation. More important, large jobs can be completed much earlier.

Grady Box is a sturdy, high-quality metallic box. For residential work, there are no plastic threads that can warp or break, or stripped screws and loose outlets. It is suitable for any outlet or switch service, so there is always a uniform appearance. Also, NM cable grounds are made automatically through the box.
